Short treks generally last from 1-7 days with daily walking times averaging 4 to 6 hours. They are designed for beginners, families, or travelers with limited time who want a quick scenic or cultural experience without extreme physical strain.

Here are the Top 5 short treks in Nepal which do not take up much time, money or physical challenge.

1. Pikey Peak Trek

This relatively new trek in the lower Khumbu offers two different approach routes. The first route is from Jiri and the second is flying from Kathmandu to Phaplu airport to begin your trek. Pikey Peak is not only one of the best view points for Everest; from here you can see other spectacular mountains over 8,000 meters, including Kanchenjung, Makalu, Lhotse, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range. Pikey Peak is also popular for sunrise and sunset views.

Itinerary (1):

  • Day 1: Drive to Dhap Bazaar from Kathmandu (2850m). Duration – 6-8 hours
  • Day 2: Trek from Dhap bazaar to Jhapre (2815m). Duration 5-6 hours
  • Day 3: trek from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp (3640m). Duration 5-6 hours
  • Day 4: Hikey to Pikey Peak (4065m) and return trek to Jhapre. Duration 6-7 hours
  • Day 5: Trek to Dhao Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu. Duration 8-9 hours.

Itinerary (2)

  • Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Jiri (1,955m) – 7 to 8 hours.
  • Day 2: Trek from Jiri to Deurali (2,700m) – 5 to 6 hours.
  • Day 3: Trek from Deurali to Bhandara or Kinja (1,630m) – 5 to 6 hours.
  • Day 4: Trek to Namkheli or Sete (2,520m) – 5 to 6 hours.
  • Day 5: Trek to Ngomar Gumpa / Goli Goma (2,980m) – 6 hours.
  • Day 6: Trek to Pikey Peak Base Camp / Nagur (3,640m) – 4 to 5 hours.
  • Day 7: Early morning climb to Pikey Peak summit (4,065m) for sunrise, then trek down to Junbesi (2,675m) – 6 to 7 hours.
  • Day 8: Side trip to Thupten Choeling Monastery, trek or drive onward to Phaplu/Salleri or retrace back – 5 to 6 hours.
  • Day 9–10: Return drive/fly from Phaplu or Salleri back to Kathmandu – 8 to 9 hours.

2. Langtang Valley Trek

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
  • Day 2: Syabrubesi (1440) to Lama Hotel (2500m). Duration 6-7 hours
  • Day 3: Lama Hotel (2500m) to Langtang Village (3400m): Duration 6-7 hours)
  • Day 4: Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3840). Duration 3 hours
  • Day 5: Acclimatization and Exploration at Kyanjin Gompa
  • Day 6: Kyanjin Gompa back to Lama Hotel
  • Day 7: Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi, then drive to Kathmandu

3. Helambu Trek

This is an easy and accessible trek near Kathmandu offering stunning views of the Langtang and Everest mountain ranges. The Helambu trek takes 5- 7 days.

While you trek, enjoy the beauty of terraced fields, lush forests, rolling hills, rivers, waterfalls and meadows. The route meanders  past Buddhist monasteries and traditional Sherpa villages and you get to witness ancient traditions and an unchanged style of life.

This trek goes up to a max altitude of 3,650m at Tharepati – which means it is a comfortable height for all trekkers, even those not used to high altitudes.

  • Day 1: Drive Kathmandu to Sundarijal, trek to Chisapani (2,165 m)
  • Day 2: Trek Chisapani to Kutumsang (2,470m)
  • Day 3: Trek Kutumsang to Tharepati (3,650m)
  • Day 4: Trek Tharepati to Tarkeghyang (2,740m)
  • Day 5: Trek Tarkeghyang to Sermathang (2,590m)
  • Day 6: Trek Sermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar, drive to Kathmandu

4. Tamang Heritage Trail

Considered as one of the most scenic, cultural treks, the Tamang Heritage Trail takes you through the remote Tamang villages in the Langtang region. This trek takes about 5-7 days and gives you enough time to immerse yourself in the unique culture and tradition of Tamang people.

Along the way, you will be able to view the beauty of the Langtang range, visit Buddhist monasteries and enjoy interactions with the local communities. This trek offers a great mix of cultural immersion and natural beauty.

The trekking will be in moderation with manageable altitudes. This makes it just the right for trekkers seeking cultural experiences without getting into extreme elevations. The trek is not so physically demanding and people with a basic level of fitness easily accomplish it.

  • Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,530m). Duration:  6–7 hours.
  • Day 2: Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2,200m). Duration: 5–6 hours. 
  • Day 3: Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani (2,607m). Duration: 6–7 hours. 
  • Day 4: Trek from Tatopani to Thuman (2,338m). Duration: 5–6 hours. 
  • Day 5: Trek from Thuman to Briddim (2,229 m). Duration: 5–6 hours. 
  • Day 6: Trek from Briddim back to Syabrubesi. Duration: 3–4 hours.
  • Day 7: Drive back from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu. 

5. Ruby Valley Trek

  • Day 3: Trek from Gatlang via Parvati Kund to Somdang (3,271m). Duration: 6 hours.
  • Day 4: Trek from Somdang over Pangsang La Pass (3,842m) to Tipling. Duration: 6 – 7 hours.
