Mongolia – The motherland of Chinggis Khan (Genghis Khan) is not just about, well, Chinggis Khan or the Great Gobi Desert.
Mongolia
Mongolia – the Land of Genghis Khan. The country of Gobi desert and famous singing sands. A country with 300 days of sunshine and monasteries and Ovoos. A country where livestock outnumber people. Mongolia is a country of contrasts – it also gives the impression of so much space. A night under the stars in the Gobi Desert is like being inside a planetarium – the sky and the stars seems as though as they leaning over you! Can you imagine come across a river right in the middle of the Gobi Desert? Not quite what you imagined a desert to be right? Then here is more – even in the hot summer months you will find blocks of ice in the Yoly Am. Naadam, an annual festival of wrestling, archery and horse-riding is a national favourite and has a long history of over 800 years. This festival is celebrated nationwide from July 11-15 during the National Holiday.
The day I saw my first flash flood in the Gobi Desert
Mongolia tops the list of my most favourite countries in the world. I love the deserts, mountains, flash floods and rural life more than anything else and Mongolia had all of that.
Mongolian Throat Singing | Video
Music is integral to the Mongolian culture and perhaps the best known form is throat singing.
The White Pearl of Gobi

There are no roads in Mongolia…but there are wide open blue skies, running horses, long haired sheep, sturdy cows, stocky women, aruul, men on horses, deserts, sands, grasslands…

Airag might be the first word you hear in Mongolia (and with good reason too), but it is more than just Horse Juice. Airag is a tradition.
