Myanmar
Myanmar, formerly Burma is slowly but surely transforming into a tourist destination. Tourists from all over the world are flocking to the country, thanks to its old world charm and originality of experience that is hard to be found in South East Asia.
This country still retains much of its culture and has not yet yielded to commercialization.
The temples and pagodas, street art and colonial buildings, cheap transport and food are a huge draw for tourists looking for a unique holiday on a budget. That said, Myanmar has a whole lot of UNESCO World Heritage sites too.
Myanmar has many things going for it – beginning with its affordability. It caters to travelers of all budgets and thereby affords the possibility of long term travel. There are many UNESCO heritage sites here and mountain top pagodas that make for interesting hikes. The food is very simple and locally produced but it will leave you asking for more.

Negotiating Mt Popa through mountains of monkey poo
I had barely made it over twenty ill-designed steps when the rank stink of monkey-pee assaulted my nose. It was worse than stepping around (or into) poo that kept appearing faster than it was being cleaned up by hapless Burmese men and women with long handled brooms.
Circular Train ride and a Snake Temple | Yangon’s unique offering
I loved Yangon for reasons directly relating to food and affordable living, followed by its amazing sights and sounds.
A ferry ride to Mingun and how I fell in love
Mingun, for some reason had not featured on my list, despite the fact that on every map, I saw the wave-like white Pagoda and admired it immensely.
Mandalay is more than pagodas, temples and royal palaces
Mandalay is the country’s cultural and Buddhist centre. Full of pagodas and interesting sites, Mandalay exudes a certain charm not found in any other city in the country.
